I'm Valentin, a developer from Potsdam. Rechnungstool did not start as an idea for another software subscription. I needed a simple way to create invoices and issue them as e-invoices, so I built one.
Later I shared the tool with friends and acquaintances. They did not want a large accounting package. They wanted to create an invoice, review it and receive the file. That small circle led me to offer Rechnungstool publicly.
Software without a required subscription
Many self-employed people need a dependable invoicing tool, but do not necessarily need another subscription. Rechnungstool is meant to solve this focused task without a paywall.
That is why the standard invoice workflow and anonymous route remain free. You can use the web app with a free account. Or you can create an invoice without signing into Rechnungstool directly through ChatGPT, Claude or another compatible AI chat.
Why this works for me
Server and operating costs are currently low enough for me to cover without charging a subscription for every use. Rechnungstool deliberately focuses on a clear invoice workflow.
“Free on an ongoing basis” does not mean unlimited technical capacity. Fair usage and rate limits can protect the service from abuse. No paid plan is planned for normal use of Rechnungstool.
If you want to personalise your invoice PDFs, an optional Pro upgrade is planned at a one-time price of €15. It adds layouts, accent colours and logo placement. The invoice workflow and standard layout stay free; Pro is not a subscription.
Two routes to an invoice
In the web app you can keep profiles, customers, items and invoices. If you only need one invoice, you can make it in an AI chat. The anonymous workspace remains available for 30 days; after that, invoices and PDFs stored there are deleted.
Both routes produce a ZUGFeRD PDF. It combines a readable invoice with structured invoice data. Rechnungstool supports e-invoices under EN 16931, but you still need to check the actual details and transaction.
